How to Use

  • Call your healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns.
  • If you are taking this drug to prevent stomach ulcers, take it by mouth usually four times a day, after meals and at bedtime to minimize diarrhea, or as directed by your doctor.

Dosage & Overdose

The dose will be lowered to a maintenance dose. This medication should not be taken with antacids or iron preparations, as these may interfere with its effectiveness.


  • This risk may be especially high during the first few months of treatment or when changing doses.
  • Oral contraceptive use and coronary risk factors in women.


  • There have been reports of pregnancy while taking hormonal contraceptives and antibiotics, but clinical pharmacokinetic studies have not shown consistent effects of antibiotics on plasma concentrations of synthetic steroids.
  • There may be an increased risk of minor birth defects in children whose mothers take this drug during the first 4 months of pregnancy.
